Venture Studio
What it means to be a venture studio in Southeast Asia.
A venture studio is not a venture fund and it is not a traditional software house. Where a fund backs founders who have already formed a company, and a software house builds to a client's brief, a venture studio originates, funds and operates its own portfolio of companies in parallel — carrying the idea, the product, the early team and the go-to-market under one roof before each venture stands on its own.
ThynkLabs is a Singapore- and Malaysia-based venture studio building next-generation SaaS and marketplace platforms for the parts of the real economy that mainstream software has left behind. The studio draws on twenty-five years of hands-on operating experience across retail, eCommerce, grocery, food and beverage, attractions and tourism, hospitality, marketplaces, logistics, transportation and education, and it applies that operating instinct to every venture it builds and backs.
The studio model lets a lean team run a growing portfolio without spreading itself thin. Shared resources — design, engineering, data, finance and go-to-market — sit at group level, while each venture keeps its own name, team and go-to-market plan. For every opportunity, the studio applies a deliberate three-way test: build from scratch where the problem is specific enough to justify bespoke product investment, white-label or extend an established platform where a proven system already does most of the job, or partner where a third party already does a piece of the work well.
Today the portfolio spans thirteen ventures across eleven sectors of the real economy, from real-time workforce deployment for blue-collar industries and AI-enhanced hyperlocal grocery, to hawker-first food delivery, logistics platforms, modest fashion marketplaces, eldercare concierge services and travel discovery. Several ventures are live and operating; others are in concept, each clearly labelled so partners and visitors understand what is built and what is still being scoped.
The studio's regional roots are deliberate. Southeast Asia's real economy is large, underserved and poorly understood by software built for other markets. By staying close to the operators, merchants, workers and families who live these sectors every day, ThynkLabs builds products that adapt to the person rather than demanding the person adapt to the software — held to a global standard of craft, but ASEAN-first in market and in mindset.
